Des Moines:  Charter Member Clay Blanchard of the Blue And Gold Alumni Association is scheduled to speak to the Des Moines School Board at 5:45, Tuesday, January 4th. Mr. Blanchard will introduce the Board to the Blue And Gold Alumni Association's proposal; Technical / Vocational Education Today - Options For The Future. The Association outlines an Agenda For Progress for the Des Moines Public Schools in the area of Technical / Vocational Education and related matters. The Proposal speaks to the issues of; Central Campus, Central Academy, facility usage, transportation, bus parking, student parking and student safety. Recommendations included in the proposal; student interest surveys, business needs surveys, a permanent location for Central Academy, and the reopening of Des Moines Technical High School.

Des Moines:  The Blue and Gold Alumni Association released it's "Technical / Vocational Education Today - Options For The Future" proposal to the Des Moines School Board and the Media.  The proposal outlines options concerning Technical / Vocational Education, Central Campus, Central Academy, parking, transportation issues and the re-opening of Des Moines Technical High School.

Des Moines:  The Class of 1970 will hold it's 35th Reunion on June 18th and 19th 2005.  The Reunion Committee is working on the details with a Reunion Dinner Saturday evening, and a picnic outing on Sunday.  An Informal Social may be at the School on the previous Friday night.  Class members should update their Alumni Record at http://update.dmtechhs.com/.

Des Moines:  Trophy Committee Members of the Alumni Association cleaned the Tech High Floor Emblem, trophies, awards, and the trophy cases on the second floor in preparation for the new school year.  The Association attempts to clean and maintain the trophies twice a year.

Des Moines: Harold Mishmash, 83, passed away August 5th.  Harold taught welding at Des Moines Tech from 1959 to 1983 when he retired.  He received his Master degree from KSU at Pittsburg in 1950.

Des Moines:  The Class of 1964 will hold it's 40th Reunion next month on July 23rd and 24th.  Class members who are planning to attend and have not made their reservation, are encouraged to as soon as possible.  Reunion activities include a Golf Outing, an Informal Social and a Reunion Dinner.  Class members should update their Alumni Record at http://update.dmtechhs.com/.

Des Moines: Harold F. Rutz, 87, passed away May 29, 2004 at his home.  Harold taught industrial education for 31 years, the last 25 at the Des Moines Technical High School.  He retired from teaching in 1980.  He earned his Bachelors and Masters of Science Degrees from Iowa State University.

Des Moines:  Christine Smith, 96, passed away Saturday, January 24, 2004 at Wesley Acres in Des Moines.  Ms. Smith began teaching Social Studies in the fall of 1944, and  assumed the duties of being Tech's Librarian.  During her 34 year tenure as Tech's Librarian, she maintained the largest book inventory of all school libraries in the District. Ms. Smith retired in 1973.

Des Moines:  Members of the Blue And Gold Alumni Association were present at the Central Campus Open House at 1800 Grand Avenue.  Alumni from as far as 90 miles away came to the Open House to see the various program offerings.  Alumni manning the Association's information table were; Clay Blanchard '70, Cindy Roland Tovrea '71, Larry Woolis '58, and Laurance L. Tovrea '70.

Des Moines:  Lyle C Smithson, 92, passed away Monday, October 27, 2003 at Valley View Village in Des Moines.  Mr. Smithson began teaching Printing Arts at Des Moines Technical High School in 1948 and later assumed the duties of T & I Coordinator until his retirement in 1976.  Many of his students remember him as a true craftsmen of the printing trade with an acute eye for detail.

Des Moines:  The Blue And Gold Alumni Association has been invited to participate at the Central Campus Open House to be held November 13, 2003 at Central Campus ( the Tech High Building - 1800 Grand Avenue ).  All Alumni are invited to attend and see what Technical / Vocational courses still exist at the facility as well as new programs that have been developed.  Open House is from 3:30 P.M. until 7:00 P.M.

Des Moines:  Eino Tuomi, 86, passed away Monday, September 15, 2003 at Kavanagh House.  Mr. Tuomi taught Social Studies at Tech from 1946 though 1974.
